A nice round up of Augusts Photo’s of the Day from Magicseaweed popped up today, there are some good photo’s in there with some captions from the photographers which go into some detail about the shots, there’s not much technical stuff but it’s nice to hear some back-story behind the shots that get chosen each day
My favourite is number 20 of 22, taken by my friend Mitch Holmes:
I was privileged to stay with Mitch in Portugal a few times over the last few years, back in 2008 we got to sample Carcavelos, where this shot was taken, on a decent swell. Here’s a photo I took of Mitch at his then local:
In 2008 I was mainly shooting video but I lugged my Canon 400D with big, cheap telephoto to the beach on this morning as well as my Panasonic HD cam corder, Carcavelos is a busy beach as it’s so close to Lisbon but I decided to risk leaving my stuff on the beach and go in for a surf before everyone got on it, I got some of the best barrels I’ve had at a beach break and no-one stole my stuff so it all worked out well.
On our return I made a quick edit of the trip, back then my PC couldn’t handle the HD AVCHD files so I had to re-encode it to SD in order to edit it, it was the first video I ever uploaded to Vimeo:
