TWS Photographer Series: Brian Bielman

Transworld Surf’s photographer series is always worth a look, this time it’s Brian Bielman, check it out here: http://surf.transworld.net/1000163644/photos/the-photographer-series-brian-bielmann/

There’s a minimalist interview, my favourite snippet:

Best advice you could give an up and coming photographer?

You better be able to get the job done and you better be cool or no one will ever want to work with you.

Can’t argue with that advice.

The slide show is naturally the main event here so make sure you use the slightly clunky navigation to view the photo’s nice and big, click on the first thumbnail, then click on the little expand icon in the top right and then slide through the pic’s.

I like the story behind the first image – of Andy Irons paddling out at pipe, it had another photog’s head in it originally but his friend removed it in Photoshop and it went on to be used by Billabong for a high profile Pipe Comp advert, I would guess that there are some purists who would be offended by the editing of the photo but I’m all for it, there’s a few photo’s that I’ve taken that I’ve manipulated digitally to remove landmarks or distracting objects, I just wish they’d been as good as this one in the first place.

There’s some great captions to the photo’s, highlighting some interesting times in surfing’s history, like the advent of Digital cameras, the early days of shooting Teahupoo and even a 1978 Bob Marley and the Wailers concert, so go and look at it now, don’t forget to make it full screen and read the captions.
