One interesting post in particular popped up recently and it’s all about a big aspect of surf photography that I am pretty clueless about: long lenses.

He uses some great examples shot on a variety of lenses from Nikon and Canon, and even covers the more budget end, including the Canon 70-200 f4 lens that I use a lot, saying:
I like this lens, just spent the last six months shooting with it and it works well unless you absolutely need that extra stop, which most of us don’t, or shoot full frame and want to be able to put a 2x converter on it, I would get the F4 and spend the spare cash on a flight somewhere good.
Here’s a shot from the same day using the 70-200mm f4 lens (at 113mm), so you can get an idea of how the 600mm gets you into the action and the 70-200 allows you to capture more of the atmosphere.
I like sensible advice and reading what someone who has a lot of experience has to say so I’m going to be keeping up to date on the blog posts, I’ve also got a review ready for his book Numb that I bought a while ago, as soon as I get the hosting sorted for the site I will stick the review up, but needless to say it’s a great read with some amazing photo’s.
